How to choose the right bed linen for summer?

Summer is here, and with it, those warmer nights that can quickly become uncomfortable if our bed linen isn't suitable. At Tomète, we believe that sleeping well starts with choosing the right sheets. Freshness, breathability, lightness: these are the key words for spending beautiful summer nights. Here are our tips for preparing your bed for the warm season, and discover why our scalloped cotton percale collection is your best ally for summer.

1. Choose natural materials

When temperatures rise, natural fibers make all the difference. Unlike synthetic materials that retain heat, cotton breathes, absorbs moisture, and helps regulate body temperature at night. That's why our bed linen is made exclusively from high-quality cotton: for healthy comfort and long-lasting softness, summer and winter alike.

2. Bet on cotton percale, naturally fresh

The fine yet tight percale weave gives the cotton a matte, lightweight, and cool texture. It's an ideal fabric for warmer months: it remains pleasant to the touch, even when the temperature rises. The Tomète scalloped percale is the perfect example: a naturally breathable fabric, enhanced with delicate scalloped embroidery that adds a touch of understated refinement.

3. Measure the number of threads correctly

Good summer bedding shouldn't be too dense. Contrary to popular belief, a very high thread count isn't always a guarantee of quality—especially in summer. Above 600 thread counts, the fabric can become too compact, and therefore less breathable. Our percale sheets strike the ideal balance: tight enough to ensure softness and durability, yet still airy enough to allow air to circulate. The result: a consistently fresh feeling, night after night.

4. Use the duvet cover without a duvet

When nights get very warm, it's not always necessary to keep a duvet on. A simple and effective alternative is to use just the duvet cover. Lightweight, soft, and breathable, the Tomète cotton percale duvet cover is perfectly suited for this purpose. It offers the feel of a flat sheet while retaining the elegance and refinement of its scalloped finishes. Available in tone-on-tone white or white enhanced with forest green embroidery, it dresses the bed with simplicity and freshness, without ever giving the impression of sleeping "uncovered."

5. Adapt your duvet to the season

If you insist on keeping a duvet, make sure it's lightweight (ideally around 4.5 tog) and filled with natural fibers like cotton or down. These materials provide better thermal regulation than synthetic fillings. You can also opt for a modular "4-season" duvet if you want a versatile solution. The important thing is to never get too hot—the quality of your sleep depends on it.

6. Wash more often, air dry

In summer, we sweat more. It is therefore recommended to wash your sheets at least once a week. Not only does this ensure better hygiene, but it also allows the fabric to remain more breathable. If you can, dry your laundry outside: nothing beats the freshness of a sheet dried in the wind. The sun also has the advantage of naturally reviving whites. In case of strong exposure, consider turning your forest green scalloped sheets inside out to preserve the intensity of the embroidery.

7. Alternate the trimmings for more freshness

Having two sets of bedding is always a good idea in the summer. This makes it easy to alternate between washes, while giving your bedroom a visual refresh. Our two current variations—White/White and White/Forest Green—offer just that. The white version blends into a clean, bright world, while the green embroidered version adds a subtle graphic touch, inspired by nature.

Summer is a time of slowing down, seeking simplicity and comfort. Choosing a beautiful bedding set suited to the heat means treating yourself to a moment of freshness and well-being every night. With our scalloped cotton percale bed linen, we wanted to combine the lightness of a naturally breathable fabric with the elegance of timeless embroidery.

Fresh, soft, chic—our line of bed linen was designed to last you all summer long, and beyond.
