NICE TOMÈTE YOU

VALENTINE DESGAULTIÈRES

Marketing and Communications Director at Jars Céramistes

For this new episode of "Nice Tomète You", we had the pleasure of meeting Valentine Desgaultières at her home, in the Lyon region, on a sunny afternoon, around a table set for an afternoon snack.

Mother of two children and Marketing and Communications Director at Jars Céramistes, Valentine envisions her home as a luminous sanctuary, open to nature. Entirely redesigned and extended, her house combines minimalism, light, and conviviality, with large spaces facing the garden and designed for fully living and sharing daily life.

This exchange holds a special significance for us, as Tomète recently collaborated with Jars Céramistes on a collection designed with Valentine. A meeting that feels like an obvious fit.

Today, she opens the doors to her soothing world, blending natural materials, light, and carefully chosen inspirations, to share her rituals and her perspective on Tomète.

Tomète: Can you introduce yourself in a few words?

VALENTINE: I'm Valentine, a mother of two and passionate about both nature and decorating. For five years, I've been the Marketing and Communications Director at Jars Céramistes. We live in Tassin-la-Demi-Lune (Lyon region), in a house that we completely redesigned eight years ago. A place we enlarged and shaped to fully match our way of life.

How would you describe your interior design style?

Minimalist, bright, open to the outdoors.

Can you tell us about the town or neighborhood you live in? How does it influence your home's interior?

We live in a residential neighborhood where we enjoy both peace and quiet and a real community spirit. Many of our friends have settled here over time, so we often get together, sometimes spontaneously. And in a few minutes, we can also go for a walk in the woods. This way of life is naturally reflected in our home: it opens wide onto the garden to host long spring and summer evenings, and becomes softer and more intimate in winter, around the fire. A simple and precious balance, which reflects us perfectly.

Tell us a story about your home renovation.

Imagining and transforming this house was a real adventure. We doubled its surface area to create a living space entirely oriented towards the garden, with open volumes to share everyday life all four of us. A house designed for togetherness... sometimes even a little too much!

What is your philosophy regarding the art of tableware?

I like creating simple and harmonious tablescapes, adapting them to the seasons. I also adapt my choice of plates, always Jars, a brand I loved long before working there. My greatest pleasure is to arrange bouquets with flowers from my garden or those gathered from a path.

A memorable memory or something special to share about a meal you organized or attended?

I especially love setting up long summer tables under the trees, with a few small lights creating an almost magical atmosphere.

What kind of host are you? Team "I think about the menu and decor weeks in advance" or team "last minute"?

I'm quite organized in the kitchen: I love browsing my recipe books and planning menus a few days in advance. However, when it comes to table decorations, it's much more spontaneous; everything is decided at the last minute, depending on the mood of the day.

A song you'll definitely listen to at your place?

Nat King Cole in the winter and Billie Bossa Nova in the summer.

What did you like about the Tomète universe or products?

I liked the simple yet unique aspect of the scallop. I enjoy discovering brands that aren't ubiquitous, especially when they have that special detail that makes all the difference.

Which Tomète product did you choose for your home, and why?

I particularly like the placemats, and I recently discovered and fell in love with the towels. I like their simple yet chic style, and I can definitely see myself using the large size for the beach this summer.

What role does household linen play in your home?

I’ve always loved household linen. Textiles immediately bring warmth, and I like to change them according to my mood and the seasons. It's also a way to take care of my guests: with beautiful sheets or pretty bathroom linen.

Is your bathroom more of a minimalist spa or a joyful everyday mess?

More minimalist, in keeping with the rest of the house.

The beauty or wellness gesture you never miss?

An AESOP hydrating spray to refresh me as soon as I wake up.

A water memory?

Discovering the Scandinavian sauna tradition, followed by a dip in a 5-degree lake in Sweden. It was at the Stedsans in the Woods cabins, where my husband took me for my 40th birthday, a long-held dream of mine.

A current decor inspiration?

I really like Frama's furniture, and I especially dream of their bookshelf and coffee table.

Is there a colour or material that speaks to you at the moment?

I am particularly fond of wool, for its softness and comforting feel. I also like that it's not just for winter.

Who would you like to see for our next "Nice Tomète You"?

I would love to read a profile of Maud (the founder of Tomète) herself ;-).
