NICE TOMÈTE YOU
Julie Guillot
Directrice artistique et illustratrice

For this new episode of “Nice Tomète You,” we had the pleasure of stepping inside Julie's English cottage, nestled in the heart of Versailles. Formerly the creative director of her own studio, “Juliainlaland,” and now a creative at Bonpoint, Julie designs her interior like a living painting: a joyful maximalism made up of colors, textures, and memories gathered over time.

Tomète: Can you introduce yourself in a few words?
JULIE: My name is Julie. I ran my own design studio for over 12 years as Artistic Director (Juliainlaland) and now work as a designer for a lovely children's fashion house in Paris. I live in my little English cottage in Versailles with my boyfriend Thomas and my two sons, James and Orson.
How would you describe your interior design style?
I'm a true maximalist. I love collecting objects, souvenirs, colors, and textures. For me, interior design is all about finding the right mix to create a space that feels truly your own.
Can you tell us about the city or neighborhood where you live? How does it influence your interior design?
I live in Versailles, a city steeped in history, just the way I like it. Being so close to the palace is an incredible luxury and a constant source of inspiration. We live near Facteur Cheval (an antique and flea market), and I go there every day just to feast my eyes ;)
Tell us a story about how you decorated your home.
We are very into changing our decor, and the apartment has evolved a lot since we moved in. However, our chalet-style bedroom was the starting point for the mood, like a desire to be somewhere else.
What is your philosophy on tableware?
My boyfriend is a restaurateur in Paris (restaurant mieux, Paris 9/ Superhuit, Paris 8), so dining is a big deal in our house! We love sitting down to eat, and so do our children. Setting our tables to welcome guests, eating well, drinking well—that's life!
Do you have a memorable memory or something special to share about a meal you organized or attended?
I have so many, it's hard to choose... but obviously, lunches or dinners at my boyfriend's restaurants are moments I particularly cherish, especially since we've had our two little ones. Seeing them grow up in restaurants is great!

What kind of host are you? Team “I plan the menu and decorations weeks in advance” or team “last minute”?
Last minute, without a doubt! My boyfriend can plan his menu a day or two in advance, but when it comes to the table, I always improvise depending on the moment, my mood, and what I have on hand.
A song we're sure to hear at your place?
It all depends on when I invite you over! But for a summer dinner party, I'd say the playlist “old Italian songs that EVERY ITALIAN knows,” and for a winter atmosphere, we'd light the stove and candles and play the playlists “jazz bar in NYC” or “Old country classics.”
How did you discover Tomète?
My friend Marilou, whom Tomète also visited.
What did you like about our brand or our products?
I LOVE the English style of the scalloped trim, and the simplicity of the product, which counterbalances the maximalism of my interior.
Which Tomète product did you choose for your home, and why?
The scalloped bedding set in white and forest green cotton percale. I absolutely love the scalloped detail! It's the perfect match for my little English cottage.

How would you describe the atmosphere of your room in a few words?
We are clearly in the heart of the Yellowstone series.
What is your favorite material for sleeping and why?
Cotton, without hesitation. It's funny how we had this fad for a while where we only wanted linen. I find cotton so comforting and soft. As soon as I get into bed, I feel like I've been waiting for this moment all day.
A simple tip to give character to a bedroom (decorating tips for this room)?
Wood paneling—I could put it everywhere! Or, even simpler, paint the ceiling the same color as the walls to accentuate the cozy effect.
What role does household linen play in your home?
It plays a big role. I think it's great to have the option to change, match, and mix things up to reinvent your home. A pattern or color can change everything! One day I'll have a piece of furniture dedicated to my household linen in the country, haha.

Is your bathroom more of a minimalist spa or a cheerful everyday mess?
I would say that despite wanting a slightly cleaner space, the cheerful mess always wins out, and that's just fine ;)
The beauty or wellness treatment you never miss?
My Kobido treatment at Maison Fine in Versailles. She has magic fingers, it's just incredible.
A memory of water?
I would say the Norwegian rivers this summer. We usually go on road trips in the summer with our two little boys, and we often choose wild places where the only source of water for washing is the rivers. Pure magic.
Any current decor inspiration?
I'm slightly obsessed with architect Beata Heuman—her work is fantastic.
Who would you like to see on our next “Nice Tomète You”?
My friend Lucie Coudurier, a food stylist. She's amazing!
